Job Summary:

We are seeking qualified applicants for our new Clinic IT Specialist position – an innovative, fast-paced position designed to enhance clinic digital health operations, problem solve and troubleshoot, and introduce integrated solutions to streamline patient care.

As a key member of our administrative team, our Clinic IT Specialist will help to enable our clinical team to provide comprehensive, patient-centred primary health care. Working to their full scope, and consistently looking to improve the quality of the care we deliver, the successful candidate will support initiatives like online appointment booking, system upgrades, implementation of innovative solutions, day-to-day operational troubleshooting, and regular IT support for our team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with colleagues to implement and update technology systems including VoIP systems, online scheduling systems, project management tools, clinic orchestration tools, electronic medical record systems, etc.
  • Ensure clinic hardware is working properly by triaging issues in real-time and providing support to onsite staff as needed
  • Monitor concerns flagged in internal support system
  • Travel to partner organization to provide tech support onside at the Lakehead Nurse Practitioner Led Clinic
  • Keep track of ongoing/repeating issues and ensure they are resolved in a timely manner
  • Maintain technical documentation related to hardware and software use
  • Supporting technology-related change management
  • Troubleshoot, prioritize and schedule solutions to problems.
  • Identify and learn appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the organization.
  • Perform hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing/upgrading software and/or hardware, and configuring systems and applications.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, including checking/cleaning of workstations, printers, and peripherals.
  • Evaluate documented resolutions and analyze trends for ways to prevent future problems.
  • Administer and maintain user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Liaise with outside vendors for repairs, application and hardware information and/or provide guidance for customers.
  • Maintain professional relationships with service providers and related organizations
  • Ensure confidentiality and exercise appropriate discretion when handling sensitive client and personnel information
  • Follow all organizational policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment
  • Attend required training sessions and comply with all health and safety standards, including WHMIS
  • Other duties as required

Work Environment:
The position is in-person reporting to the Manager of Finance and Operations, and works in close partnership with the Lakehead Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic, but is primarily onsite at Harbourview Family Health Team. Other work environment information includes:

  • Access to a vehicle is required.
  • Must have a valid Ontario driver’s license and current vehicle insurance
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects weighing up to 30kg, such as computers and peripherals.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components.

Qualifications:

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and 2 years equivalent work experience (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • Technical knowledge of current network hardware, server configuration, protocols and standards
  • Strong analytical skills to assess hardware/software problems, diagnose source/cause and resolve
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities
  • Effective both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Proven ability to take initiative and contribute to team activities, organizational development, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Demonstrates leadership within the clinical team and a commitment to supporting a collaborative, team-based care model
  • Experience with electronic medical records is an asset
  • Bilingualism (English/French or other languages) is an asset
